TAPAH, Perak

Tapah
Tapah is a small town in Perak located
between Bidor and Kampar.
The town has all the basic amenities to
cater for the needs of the local. There is a police station, a hospital, a fire
station in the town. Also, there are people of various religions living here.
There is a mosque, temple, church and Gurdwara Sahib centre in the town.
The Pasar Pagi Tapah is the focus of
the town every morning. It is a partially traditional market providing shoppers
with more than 50 stalls. There are vendors selling traditional Malay sweets
such as Dodol, pickled fruits, local banana and fish fried chips, vegetables,
fruits, meat and so on. We can see Tapah locals, especially housewives, buying
their daily groceries. My personal favourite is the bitter beans which is much
cheaper and fresh from the village.
The shops in Tapah are slowly renovated
and improvised each year. Earlier, most of the shops here were owned by people
who do traditional family business. For example, there were a few traditional
biscuit shops in Tapah owned by Chinese families. They bake the biscuits by
their own. But now it is hard to find any shops that sells handmade biscuits as
most of the shops are closed and been replaced by new shops. Likewise,
tailoring shops owned by Indian families vanished over the years. Just a few
years ago, the first Pizza Hut, 99 Speedmart, Pusat Pakaian Hari-hari and
Secret Recipe was opened. There’s a Tapah Hotel too.
One of the most nostalgic place which still
remains and haven’t been renovated is the Tapah bus station. Long ago, the
station would be crowded by people going and coming back from Kuala Lumpur.
Now, the station became quiet as most people now drive their own car. But there
are still few buses operating few times a week.
